ROCKY VIEW SCHOOL BOARD TRUSTEE REPORT – Joanna Brownlee – May 2026

Joanna Brownlee – Ward 4 Trustee

RVS has received notification that the Government of Alberta has approved 10 new and four replacement modular classrooms and one washroom unit for the division, to help address the continued need for additional student learning spaces. RVS had requested 10 new modular classrooms, eight replacement modular classrooms and one washroom unit. The Board appreciates the government’s ongoing infrastructure support through this approval.

RVS continues to expand career learning opportunities beyond existing high school programs, through experiential learning and strong partnerships with post-secondary institutions, industry and community. The 2025 launch of the Career Learning Practice Guide (CLPG) established a consistent, division-wide approach to integrating career learning from Grades 1–12, supported by targeted resources, staff engagement and strengthened partnerships.

Implementation has included widespread school participation, career exploration events and new dual credit opportunities, supported by grants and collaborations with organizations such as post-secondary institutions and industry partners. For 2025-26, most RVS schools have embedded career learning goals, with dedicated career learning teachers supporting delivery. Looking ahead, RVS will continue to expand dual credit offerings, enhance career-focused programming and strengthen partnerships to ensure students develop the skills, knowledge and experiences needed for future career success.

Following the release of the provincial government’s Budget 2026, RVS has received its detailed funding profile for the 2026/27 school year. RVS will receive total funding of $315.9 million, an increase of $14.1 million over the current year. This growth reflects rising student enrolment and rate increases across several grant areas.

Overall, the funding profile includes positive funding growth in key funding areas. Base instruction funding has increased by $6.5 million to $198.9 million, while specialized learning funding has grown by $788,000 to $22.8 million, supporting enhanced services for students. Transportation funding has risen by $619,000 to $20.1 million, and operations and maintenance funding now totals $27.8 million following the consolidation of infrastructure grants, which is an increase of $311,000. While system administration funding saw a slight adjustment, overall funding remains stable, and additional support will fully address projected teacher salary increases for 2026/27.

School boards across Alberta have flexibility in how funding is allocated to best meet local needs, and RVS administration is working closely with the Board’s Budget Committee to develop a balanced and responsive budget. A proposed 2026/27 budget will be brought forward for Board consideration by the end of May 2026.
