A New Local High Speed Internet Choice, Built for Foothills
During the summer and fall of 2026, Mage Networks, an Alberta company, is completing a $5.89 million project funded by the Alberta Broadband Fund (ABF) and Mage Networks to provide high speed Internet service in Foothills County. ABF funds 75percent while Mage Networks contributes the 25percent. The ABF is a collaboration between the Governments of Canada (GOC) and Alberta (GOA), who each contribute 37.5percent of the total budget. The project includes 25 kms of fiber and 120 kms of Data Pipelines using Fortis Power poles.
The project targets Priddis and HWY 768 south of Bragg Creek all the way to Millarville. ABF has determined that they fall below the federally mandated speeds of 50 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload. To provide sufficient speed, three Points of Presence (POP) feed this network from the Alberta Supernet with fiber coming in from Bragg Creek, Millarville and Tsuut’ina.
Mage Networks’ service exceeds the mandated levels by a large margin, providing 100 Mbps download and upload. The company designs the network to minimize or eliminate the typical congestion that occurs with most internet service providers when too many users are online simultaneously. MagiNetTM also uses customer locations as relays in the Data Pipeline. This extends the network to neighboring houses without degrading performance. Because of the characteristics of wireless transmission, adding a relay improves network performance. So, often more customers mean better service.
