JUDITH (JUDIE) ANN NORMAN
MAY 24, 1947 – CALGARY, AB AUGUST 4, 2026 – BRAGG CREEK, AB
It is with profound sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Judith ( Judie) Anne Norman on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.
Judie was a lifelong resident of the Bragg Creek area, a community that shaped her life from childhood onward. Born in Calgary in 1947, this was the same year her mom and dad purchased the Last Break Ranch. Judie and her family travelled to stay at the cabin every weekend. In 1962, Bragg Creek became the full-time residence for Judie.
At a young age, Judie worked as a switchboard operator at the Bragg Creek telephone exchange, a role she was always proud to recall.
After marrying Bruce in 1966, the couple began their life together in Springbank, where they raised their son, Chad. Later, they returned to Bragg Creek to help care for Judie’s father, Alex Baptie. Family was always at the heart of Judie’s life, and she remained deeply connected to the Baptie family homestead. The Baptie cabin held a very special place in her heart as a gathering place filled with generations of family history, which she worked dedicatedly to preserve. After her father's passing, Judie continued living in the original family home, where she and her sister-in-law, Jo-An, operated the charming Last Break Ranch Tea House for a time, welcoming visitors with warmth and local hospitality.
Judie was also a founding member of the Bragg Creek Historical Society and a contributor to the publication “Bragg Creek - Stories of Our Past”. She, along with her co-contributors, Michele, Barbara, and Marie, devoted countless hours to preserving the area’s stories, landmarks, and heritage. In addition to her community work, animals brought Judie immense happiness throughout her life.
She especially loved her horses, her cats, and her dogs, along with a variety of other livestock.
She found great joy in life’s simple pleasures: spending time in her community, enjoying the beauty of the foothills, caring for her animals, and tending to her home. Judie will be remembered for her strength, independence, kindness, and deep commitment to her family heritage and community.
She was predeceased by her parents, Alex and Doris Baptie; and by her brothers, Art, Peter, and Alex. She is survived by her husband, Bruce; her son, Chad; her sister, Lorraine (Dean); and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
The family extends a special thank you to all the first responders, the Redwood Meadows Fire Department, and STARS Air Ambulance for their care and support.
