40TH ANNIVERSARY

On Sunday, September 20th we held our 40th Anniversary celebration at the Springbank Heritage Club. What a wonderful day it turned out to be as the sky was bright blue and temperatures hit 26 degrees Celsius. Folks started to arrive shortly before 11:30am and enjoyed listening to live music by Brayden Lowe.

Our formal program began with the raising of the flag accompanied by Bill Hawes who played the bagpipe. Bill then led a procession of attendees into the building, a formality that was first performed at the Springbank Heritage Club when the club was officially opened 40 years ago!

Once everyone was settled, and after an opening prayer given by Stephen Harper from the Springbank United Church, we were entertained by several members, including Alice Payne, who provided a powerful dedication reading to honour the club, which was followed by an enthusiastic speech about the history of the club delivered by Gerry Wilson. Next, Deb Kerr, our Vice President, gave thanks to Rocky View County for being there from day 1 in providing significant financial support over the years to the Springbank Heritage Club. The County’s ongoing support helps keep membership fees manageable, partially funding our capital projects and most importantly helping to keep the club’s lights on!

Entertainment continued as the Springbank Heritage Club Singing Group, led by Jenny Shore, wholeheartedly sang Enjoy Yourself and Alberta Bound to the appreciation of everyone in attendance. Then Alice Payne and Dorothy Tyler then each passionately read a Cowboy Poem (one of which was quite racy!).

Everyone was then invited to celebrate this incredible milestone with a piece of cake. Attendees had the opportunity to visit the food trucks and participate in a game of outdoor Bocce Ball and explore the various exhibits showcasing the many activities and exercise opportunities the club offers for members. Thank you to the over 100 members, community guests and family members who joined in our celebration!
