Welcome to the New Year. Old and new friends met before Christmas to listen to a Metis Christmas story, Christmas Mittens ,read by Tracy Hook, a former resident of Longview. Tracy very kindly gave each student a pair gloves that she decorated with a heart that she had personally beaded. The Metis culture is dear to Tracy’s heart.
Bingo starts again in on the first Wednesday of the month at 1 p.m. and the Writers Group on the second Thursday of the moth at 1 p.m. We are still looking for volunteers for our board and for fundraisers. The board meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 10 a.m.
Two good winter reads are Time Enough by Lise Mayne, a resident of Nanton. It is a riveting historical novel about the emigration of a family from Ireland to Saskatchewan in the early 1900s. The second is Frozen River by Ariel Lawson. It is a historical novel set in the 1700s, and told by the diaries of a midwife. It includes a murder mystery that unhinges a small community in Maine.
