New Year, New Possibilities for Banff-Kananaskis
Welcome to 2026! It’s hard to believe we’re already stepping into another year together. The past twelve months have been full of challenges, opportunities, and moments that reminded us why Banff-Kananaskis is such a special place to call home. As we turn the page to a new year, I want to extend my warmest wishes to you and your loved ones. May this year bring health, happiness, and meaningful connections.
The start of a new year is always a time for reflection and renewal. It’s a chance to look back on what we’ve accomplished and set our sights on what’s ahead. I’m excited about the opportunities 2026 will bring for our communities.
A time to reflect
I’ve had the privilege of meeting so many of you—listening to your stories, learning about your priorities, and working together to protect what makes this riding unique. People often ask what it’s like to represent a region as diverse as Banff-Kananaskis. My answer hasn’t changed: our diversity makes us stronger, but what truly unites us is our shared love for the land we live, work, and play on.
In 2025, I spent as much time outside and in different communities as I could. From the Ghost to Millarville and from Lake Louise to Springbank, our riding and its people are truly the best. In conversation with our constituents, I heard your concerns about ranching and wildlife coexistence, water access for safety and for drinking, recreation increases changing our backyards, impacts to small businesses with new legislation, and so much more. Each of these conversations helps me better represent you in the legislature.
In 2025, I spoke up on issues that matter to you, including affordability, supports for seniors, healthcare, and government transparency. If you’d like to see more about these debates, check out my YouTube channel for full bill debate speeches, questions to Ministers, and Member Statements.
A time to look ahead
Looking ahead to 2026, I’m excited! I really feel like I’ve hit my groove as your MLA. I’m hearing you and understanding more how I can take your voices to Edmonton in a meaningful way. I’ve developed some amazing relationships with individuals, businesses, and stakeholders and I love the thought of fostering more connections. I’m also looking ahead to our next provincial election, whenever that will be, and thinking about how to work towards building a better Alberta and how best to represent you in the future.
I look at 2026 with optimism and a shared sense of purpose. The new year brings opportunities to strengthen our communities, work together on common goals, and continue building a future that reflects our values. I’m excited for what lies ahead and look forward to collaborating with you to make this year meaningful and productive for Banff-Kananaskis.
This month, I’m strategizing… Taking the lessons from our fall legislative session, defining the issues we need to keep talking about at a provincial level (e.g., education) and our local issues (e.g., wildlife coexistence). My team and I will use January and February to refine our communications strategy to ensure we’re reaching you where you’re at. I’m also working with stakeholders on some high-level environmental priorities related to my shadow ministry of Environment and Protected Areas. I know that by the time session starts up again at the end of February, I’ll be ready – armed with knowledge, strategy, and your perspectives/concerns/thoughts!

As January and February don’t involve as much time on the road to Edmonton, I’ll resume a regular MLA on Tour. I’ll include a few “Trails Day with Sarah” too because I just love talking and walking with my dog. Trails Day is a great way for us to chat in a more casual setting for a few hours in the woods under the Alberta sunshine. Check out the dates those events here, or email my office to set up a meeting.
Your thoughts, concerns, and ideas are always welcome, and I look forward to engaging with you in the months ahead. As we embrace the possibilities of this New Year, let’s continue to work together to build a better future. Happy New Year!
