Bragg Creek Trails – Sep 2024

Trails Talk

The freshness in the Autumn air always brings a sense of urgency at BCT in order to get those last bits of summer trail work done before snow starts to cover up the ground. The summer season has been a buzz of activity with the main goal aimed at bringing our narrow winter trails up to a year round use standard. If you’ve been out in West Bragg Creek you will notice fresh trail tread work on West Crystal single track, Boundary Horse Trail, Snowy Shortcut , East Sundog and Mountain View. No loose stone were safe this year as they have become the foundation materials for many of these new trails that were raised up to allow for proper drainage.

Thanks to the many trail volunteers and organizations who contributed to our success this summer. These included our partner organizations, Friends of Kananaskis and the Great Divide Trail Association. We also had the pleasure of having a “platoon” of Army Cadets, MEC staff and other corporate groups join us for trail days this summer. What a great way to build team spirit! The addition of two summer students to our staff gave us some extra horsepower as well.

Bear Necessities – Wildilfe Ambassador and bear safety training were also a highlight for our volunteers this summer. Being “bear aware” and confident during a bear encounter is a skill many of BCT staff and volunteers now have as evidenced by their convincing role playing performances.

See you on the trails
