No business is “too small” to be a target for cyber threats. In fact, a small business can be 3 times more likely to experience a cyberattack than larger businesses, because they have fewer IT resources.

Here are some simple strategies to defend your business so the criminals move on to the next target.
I. Have a Password Policy and follow it.
Weak or shared passwords are the most common entry for Cyber criminals. Try putting two or three unrelated words together with a couple numbers thrown in.
II.Educate Your Staff in Cybersecurity
Human error is now the leading source of security risks for small businesses. In fact, one study suggests that human error is at the root of 95% of all data breaches.2 Educating your staff about cybersecurity is the most reliable way to lower this risk factor.
III. Keep your Data Secure
It’s critical to have a good Backup and test it regularly. Your data is the one thing you can’t replace.
IV. Keep your computers and software Up to Date.
This will reduce vulnerabilities that can be targeted by malicious email and websites, even if you do click on that link.
V. Secure your Network & Cloud Services.
Get a good Firewall and VPN. Don’t rely on what your Internet provider has given you.
VI. Report all Unusual Activity.
Have a written “Incident Response Plan”, and someone you trust to review it.
