We are thrilled that the installation of our solar panels is complete. By the time this goes to print, all inspections should be finalised, and the system will be generating green energy. The money saved on electricity helps pay for programs and special events. We are planning some talks about solar power where the public will be able to come in and see how the system works. Stay tuned for more information.
Are you roughly 29-42 years young? Have you not made a friend outside work in 8 years? Well, maybe you can find some in the library at the Miserable Millennials Bored? Game Night! Meet a group of other people for board games, Nintendo Switch, and/or conversation. Forbidden topics: politics, housing prices, and comparison of the quality of your parent’s basement (where you may currently be residing). Encouraged topics: cats, industries millennials are blamed for killing, and movies or TV shows you can’t believe came out over 15 years ago. For the first meeting, people who signed up will receive cookies and juice boxes to celebrate our maturity. For later events, bring your own snacks -sharing optional. Sign up is encouraged so you get a reminder email that you can choose to ignore. Drop-ins welcome as long as you don’t ignore us in person. This is an adult only event on the last Friday of the month, starting July 25th. Doors open at 6:30 pm but stop in any time 6:30-8:00 pm. The evening is free, but you will have to leave your house. Facilitators alternate between our wonderful Millennial staff, Teagan and Cheryl.
There is still room in some of the summer camps happening at the library. If your child or grandchild is interested in Art, there are still spots available in Mushroom Kingdom Makers: A Super Mario Art Adventure, July 21-25 for children aged 5-12. For 6-12 year olds, Superheroes and Villains Art Camp takes place August 18-22. The Kananaskis Kids’ Choir Camp under the direction of Renee Boehmer takes place July 7-11 with a performance on Friday afternoon for anyone who wants to come and see what they have accomplished. Links to details for all our summer camps are on our website: www.sheepriverlibrary.ca/news
Our Fall program guide will be out in the next issue of the High Country News.
We have many new programs and some old favourites returning. Please register online, in person or by phone to reserve your spot for anything that catches your interest.
Thank you to all who came by the library on Discovery Day to buy books at our used book sale. We enjoyed chatting with long time library users and meeting new ones. It was very successful day with all the proceeds going to fund programs at the library. Leftover books will either be sent on to Better World Books or to a movie company in Calgary to be used for set decoration in movies and TV shows.
If you submitted anonymous questions after the Emergency Preparedness Week events in May, the answers are now published on our website. We’ve added some more recommended resources to help with planning and prevention, so check them out!
Links to all mentioned programs, events and resources are in this month’s news article at www.sheepriverlibrary.ca/news.
Remember, if it gets too hot and smoky, the library has A/C!
The library will be closed July 1 for Canada Day.
