Priddis News – Sep 2019

Everyone has taken up their fall routine now that the kids will be back at school. The garden is winding down and you have found that you have some free time. Join a daytime or evening class at the Priddis Hall. Check out the calendar of events on the priddisalberta.com website.

Parent & Tot Playgroup: The drop- in playgroup meets the first Friday of each month at the Hall. The next date is September 6th from 10:30 to 11:30. No fee is charged to attend. If you are new to our community with a young family, this is a great way to get to know your neighbours and find out what programs are available in the Priddis area. This event is also listed on the PCA website, www.priddisalberta.com.

Priddis Early Learning Program (PELP): The parent orientation meeting will be held at Jane’s Cafe on Sept 4th at 7pm. PELP teacher, Lindsay, is hosting an open classroom on Sept 5th & 6th from 9:30am-11am for students and parents who wish to visit. The first day for the 4-year program is September 9th. The first day for the 3-year program is September 10th.

PELP’s fundraiser, Mabel’s Labels, is ongoing. Great labels for kids’ things, e.g. jackets, t-shirts, pants, hats and shoes. We appreciate all your orders as 20% of sales through the link come back to our community preschool.

The 3 and 4-year old programs are full, with a waitlist for 2019-2020. Contact pelppreschool@gmail.com for more information on this local program.

Priddis Hockey: Registration for hockey is Tuesday, September 10th, 6:00 to 8:30 at the Priddis Hall. For more information on joining this pond hockey league, contact Dave Thompson at 403.921.3640 or email priddishockey@gmail.com

Priddis Hall Rental Rates: The hall rental rate structure and policies have recently been updated. The goal was to simplify rates and policies to make rentals more flexible and accommodating. Visit the Priddis Community Association Hall Rentals webpage for more information or to reserve the hall for your upcoming events. We still have 2019 dates available so check out www.priddisalberta.com/book-hall

Priddis Multi-Purpose Building: The Priddis Community Association and Multipurpose Building Committee is pleasedtoreportonthecontinuingprogress of the Multipurpose Complex Project.

The MPB Committee, in close partnership with the Priddis Panthers Hockey Association, have begun the process of the old rink rebuild. The project was divided into two phases: restoration of the hockey rink and building a new complex. To date, the tear down of the rink, player benches and general clean up has been completed. The next step is the preparation of the rink steel support frame, rebuilding the penalty boxes and score keeper booth in the original location and building the new players benches on the north side of the rink. New boards will then be added. The Phase 1 rink rebuild should be completed in September 2019 and will be ready for the 2019/20 hockey season. The MPB Committee is still considering an ATCO trailer to be used as a temporary change room until completion of Phase 2, the Multipurpose Complex. This would allow the Priddis Panthers teams to host home games and would provide a warm place for families to get changed and warm up while making use of the new and improved rink.

The MPB Committee is working on procuring grants, additional fundraising and both private and corporate donations to help with financing of Phase 2. We look forward to continuing to work toward completion of this project and providing our community with the facilities we need for our ever growing and active community! We thank the Priddis community at large for their support of this project. If you would like to donate, contact Dave Thompson at 403.921.3640 or email priddishockey@gmail.com
