Chapter 182
Every month there’s a certain sense of ‘how did it go so fast?’ This month more than ever, has gone by in lightning mode. We certainly had a spectacular light show last weekend, the night sky was seriously illuminated for several hours of flashes and thunderclaps, offering much excitement. The temperature stayed pretty high, enticing me to abandon what I was doing to rush out onto the deck, strip off and dance around in the raindrops for a while.
Of course, September was the month Fantuzzi was in town. We got to spend some time together just being us, rather than constantly on the move, on the hustle, trying to keep money flowing in the right direction. Although there was plenty of that as the Fantuzzi train never actually stands in the station, we did also have time to experience a bit of the Foothills flavour that is such an exotic treat for my little hothouse flower that is Fantuzzi.

The first thing we did was visit the Okotoks Rodeo at the Millarville Race Track. The weather was obligingly brilliant, bright and hot – just the way he likes it. The adrenaline rush of Barrel Racing, Rodeo, Roping and more was something new for him and we had the added bonus of randomly sitting next to one of my horse friends who has been involved with the Rodeo circuit for years, so was helpfully sharing insights and knowledge between sudden bursts of action. I also got to see the owner of my barn riding saddle bronc. That was pretty cool to actually see someone I know on the other side of the rails. To top the day off, we found a couple of lovely Rodeo Princesses who were kind enough to pose with Fantuzzi. I found it synchronistic that they were adorned in pink with pink sparkles scattered across their horses’ rumps – since that is the man’s favourite colour.
We spent a couple of afternoons down at the barn where Fantuzzi learned there’s a lot more to riding than one might think if one’s only experience has been sitting on a commercial trail horse. As I pointed out to him, this one “has a mind of her own, she’s very willing, but you have to speak the right language and you might find she asks a few questions of you too.” We had a blast, he was exhausted.
A birthday part in the city saw the beginning of his sojourn in Alberta. There were so many folk there enamoured of his songs and stories, they bought tickets for the later show we did in Calgary SW. The show sold out and the audience was enraptured. I made an enormous vat of Chai (from scratch) which went down swiftly as everyone enjoyed the flavours of real indian spiced tea… and the chocolate donations that people contributed created a delightful, delicious and exotic array of decadence. That combined with a few other musicians offering meditational harp music as an opening, a terrific Didgeridoo contribution to one of Fantuzzi’s iconic pieces – Snake Song – and the wonderful original music and beautiful voice of Tiffany Sparrow made this evening unforgettable. I guess he’ll have to come again and do more.
In between all these shenanigans I continue to pursue my studies and practice with horse massage. Now I’m in to case studies which have to be reported back to the equestrian mentors (horse gods). If you have a horse in work and would like a couple of treatments for them, please reach out – the best way is via WhatsApp on +1-415-525-2630, or email (see end of article). The case study work is free of charge, but donations are appreciated.
Things will get more expensive the more time and money I spend on building my certificate library which is already quite extensive. My horse work spans more than fifty years and counting…yet I continue to learn and find myself astonished at some of the new and improved things that come across my path.
Never stop learning!
