Millarville Community Library – Nov 2022

We do live in an amazing place! This year the glory of the golden aspens against the blue, blue sky with our beloved Rockies towering in the distance has brought a smile to our hearts and a bounce to our steps! And then there are the generous, caring people in our community. Thanks to your generosity through donations and our successful bottle drive we have replenished our coffers! I would like to reassure all our library patrons who might have been alarmed by our “ask” for donations. A combination of a large increase in utilities and insurance coupled with a shortfall in funding from our traditional funders (lots of other important community projects needing funding) meant that we were struggling to provide the quality of service that this community expects. Your generosity means that we can purchase more new books and materials and provide the best possible service. We plan to have one more bottle drive after Christmas as well as offering some interesting Christmas gift ideas. Please keep us in mind for Christmas donations and on Giving Tuesday.

Our workshop program is in full swing. Out next workshop is Wet Felted Bowls with Lyn Pflueger Saturday November 5, 2022 10:00 – 2:00

“Wet felting” is an old way of making fabric out of Sheep’s wool. Hats, coats, and carpets are familiar forms, but we can also make bowls in this simple technique. And while felted bowls will not hold water, they are perfect for holding our treasures.

So, if you love to work with colour and shape, come join us in this 4-hour class… whether you are experienced with textiles or not, whether young or older, you will make a beautiful and useful sculptural object!

Registration Cost: $40 per bowl (all materials are included)
Ages: 6 and up maximum: 10 people
Place: Millarville Community Library

In November we have two workshops; On November 10, 2:00 or 6:00 p.m., you decorate spectacular Christmas cookies with artist Sheila Woolner in her home in Priddis. On November 24 children and adults can decorate Christmas cupcakes with library manager and cupcake Queen Natasha Grusendorf. At our final workshop this year on December 1, children and adults can make glass fused magnets with Saskia Knol (just in time for Christmas gifts). All of our workshop facilitators donate a portion of their fee to the library. We are so grateful to them.
