BRAGG CREEK COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION

The Art of Waiting is a curious thing. Although each of us handles waiting in our own way, we all complain about it, joke about it, sometimes boast about it, and pretty much dislike it entirely. And yet, we will politely stand in a lineup for hours if need be (or want be) for some of the most trivial things, and even, sometimes, just because.

How long is too long to wait? Answer: You wait more than you are able, but as much as you’re going to.

Hurry Up & Wait! While waiting you can plan, think, daydream, or fiddle on your phone to keep your mind distracted from what you are really doing. You can do calf raises, squats, rock on the spot, sit, pace or stretch. The art of waiting, though, is in your mindset and conviction that this is a necessary use of your time.

If you are interested in getting involved, have a skill to share and can volunteer some of your time, the Community Centre can’t wait to hear from you. Here are some fun ideas:

• June 15 to Sept 21 – Your favourite Farmer’s Market is back! We are looking for volunteers to help out on Sundays, getting you outside enjoying the summer vibes. There are three shifts to choose from, on any Sunday that works for you. Volunteer with a friend and make a day of it!

  • Youth are welcome – a great opportunity to earn volunteer credits while on summer break.
  • Children love helping out too, this is a great family activity idea.
  • Check out the SignUp link on braggcreekca.com, visit us at the Centre, or call in anytime.

• Non-Profit Groups are invited to take part in the Farmer’s Market as “Guest Hosts” to promote their endeavours while helping run the market at the same time. Email rental@braggcreekca.com if we haven’t already been in touch with you.

• June 21 – The Bragg Creek Foundation is organizing their annual “Clean Up the Creek” event. See braggcreekfoundation.ca for full details, and please come out to help.

• July 19 – Bragg Creek Days – There are sponsorship opportunities if you have a business and want to become more involved. Contact Ramonde via the Community Centre. For volunteering on event day, shifts will be available via SignUp on our website later in June.

• The Spirit of Christmas needs early interest and committee contribution. Is this something you would like to add your sparkle to? Contact Shaye via the Community Centre.

• The BCCA Board has various committees made up of Directors and members of the community. Maybe you have interest and talent to share in the areas of; Sustainability and Resiliency, Volunteer Management, or Community Research. Community representation is needed on these committees as well as Board participation.

• Do you have any ideas for BCCA fundraising? We would be interested to hear and help and grow.

Thank You to all the Grade 7 and 8 students that participated in the Banded Peak School’s Volunteer Day on May 23rd. It is tremendous to see volunteerism demonstrated by our hard working youth who used their energy and enthusiasm to help us with a spring spruce up, inside and out.

Are you on a waitlist, waiting your turn, waiting on someone to decide something, or just waiting to see if a problem will disappear on its own? If it is worth waiting for, it is worth it, right?

Happy Father’s Day!
