Longview Library – Apr 2023

It’s almost gardening season and so we are having our seed exchange again this year. Along with some excellent gardening books, tomato and peppers seeds are available now in the library. On April 5th. we will be having a seed exchange party with door prizes, snacks, tea and coffee.

Just a reminder that the library has smart hubs, iPads and literary kits to check out for our library patrons.

Our most successful fundraiser of the year, Highway Clean Up is on Saturday, May 6th. We are asking for volunteers to help us with this. You are usually finished by noon, so mark your calendars for this important date.

The movie Women Talking , based on the novel by Miriam Toews, has been ordered for our library. It was directed by Sarah Polley and she won a well deserved Oscar for it last night!

The book club is starting up on March 10th. It will be meeting the 17th. 24th. And 31st. at the church. Everyone is welcome. The Facilitator is Kathryn Richmond. The book this month is Boundaries: When to Say Yes and How to Say No.

New books for the library are: The Librarian of Burned Books by Brianna Labuskes, The Last Chairlift by John Irving and The Rising Tide by Ann Cleeves.

Lessons in Chemistry, by Bonnie Gamus is an unforgettable and wonderful read. It is clever, funny, yet a profound insight into the sexism women faced in the 1950s and 60s ,and in many ways still do. It is the story of a young chemist struggling to find her way in a male dominated world. Her struggles are eased by supportive friends, colleagues, a loving husband and a deep connection to her dog, Six Thirty. It’s a book you will be loathe to put down.
