TURNER VALLEY OILFIELDS – Apr 2023

Turner Valley Oilfields Camera Club Celebrates 60 Years

In 1963, a group of local residents formed a club to explore their passion for photography, improve their skills, and share images of the stunning Alberta foothills and mountains (and much more!)

Sixty years later, the club is still going strong with about 30 enthusiastic members who meet monthly at the Sheep Creek Arts Council in Diamond Valley.

The club will be celebrating its sixtieth anniversary at a year-end banquet at the Turner Valley Legion on Tuesday, May 9 at 5:00 pm. All past members or interested photographers are welcome to attend.

Many photographers of all levels have become members of the club over the decades, including five lifetime members: Peggy Orr, who passed away in 2020 at the age of 101, Nola Middleton, who passed away in 2017, Bern Dayment, a member since 1979, Sheila Smith, a member since 2006, and Ted Dawson, who was the annual competition judge from 1979 to 2021 and awarded a lifetime membership in 2023.

Anyone with an interest in photography is welcome to attend a meeting to learn more about the club. The club meets on the last Tuesday of each month, September to April (excluding December) at 7:00 pm. Annual fees are $50, which includes a membership in the Sheep Creek Arts Council.

Meetings feature an educational presentation, a friendly photo competition, and an opportunity to meet and mingle with fellow photographers. Please contact the club’s membership director at membership@tvocc.org for more information.

If you are interested in attending the banquet on May 9, please contact sheila77.smith@gmail.com. More information about the club is available at tvocc.org.
