Safety on the Trails: BCT Passes Annual COR Maintenance Audit

Bragg Creek Trails (BCT) builds, maintains and grooms 166 kilometres of multi-use trails in West Bragg Creek (WBC). Keeping that network in great shape involves everything from clearing trees and operating motorized equipment to digging, hauling, tamping and plenty of other hands-on work.
With that work comes a responsibility to make sure it is done safely.
BCT has a strong safety culture and is committed to ensuring our staff and volunteers have the training, tools and processes they need to work safely and head home healthy at the end of the day. Just as importantly, we recognize that our work takes place in a beautiful natural environment valued by those who live, work and recreate here. Protecting that environment and minimizing the impact of our activities remains an important part of how we approach trail work.
In mid-2025, BCT achieved a Certificate of Recognition (COR) for our occupational health and safety systems through the Alberta Association for Safety Partnerships. Achieving COR required a rigorous audit of our safety programs, practices and results and represents an important milestone for the organization.
The work doesn’t stop once the certificate is on the wall. To maintain COR, BCT must successfully complete annual maintenance audits throughout the three- year certification period. These audits help ensure our safety systems continue to meet the required standards while adapting alongside our work and operations.
Our first annual COR Maintenance Audit took place in early July, and we’re pleased to share that BCT successfully passed the audit.
While it was a great result, the audit also highlighted opportunities to continue improving our processes and safety culture. Those recommendations will be incorporated into our work over the coming months as part of our ongoing commitment to doing things well – and doing them safely.
Want to experience a BCT Trail Day firsthand? Come join us! Our volunteers are an important part of caring for the trails we all enjoy, and no previous trail-building experience is required. Learn new skills, meet some great people and spend a day giving back!
