The Square Butte Community board continues to meet regularly. We keep abreast of COVID-19 regulations as prescribed by the County and the Province to ensure that any activities we plan are compliant with recommended practices. We have been able to sponsor two outdoor work bees this summer to do maintenance on our decks and complete some yard work. Thanks to the group who showed up in July to put the second coat of stain on the hall steps and deck.
Our Community Hall
The hall is such a local gem, surrounded by trees with a beautiful vista looking towards the mountains. The hall was moved onto its current site over 60 years ago and it was a well-used building before being donated to our community. Regretfully, age takes its toll. The hall has been having water leakage in the basement the last few years so Keith Walters has undertaken to identify the problems. Some concrete testing has been done, so now we await the findings and what options are available for the solutions. We know that it is going to be a costly project but the hall is well worth saving. We will be fund raising the next few years to cover this capital cost.
Square Butte Ladies Group
The Ladies Group has decided to withdraw from the Millarville Market this year due to the COVID-19 risk, so we are taking orders for our famous pies and have added butter tarts to the list. We have been getting many accolades for our tasty baking, and some people wait for the availability of our products and stock their freezers. All proceeds go to support local charities. We also have a quilt raffle each year with tickets available for $2 each. For further information, go to our facebook page, Square Butte Ladies Group. To order baking, please call 403.931.2098 or 817.219.3972, and arrangements for order pick up will be made.
Kenneth L. Leech
The community sends its sincere condolences to Diane McKay and Sasha Lewis who recently lost their father and grandfather ‘Ken’ at 98 years. Ken attended many community functions and was a member of the 500 Card Club, he will be sadly missed.
Priddis & Millarville Fair
In honour of 113 years of resilience, the Priddis & Millarville Fair will go on – but – it is a virtual fair this year. Thanks to the outstanding effort of many fair supporters, they are staging the first virtual fair in Alberta. There are competition classes for all age groups and interests and there will be an online auction to raise needed funds. Check it out at:

Brown-Lowery Provincial Park
For all those hiking enthusiasts, we have a hidden gem just east of Hwy. 762 on Plummers Road.
This day use park offers a 6.6 km. loop trail that is kid and dog friendly, year round.
The trail is quite diverse as it meanders through the trees and then breaks out on a hill top with a beautiful view of the mountains. The park was established as a result of a large donation of land from Brown & Lowery Inc. in 1992 and is maintained by local volunteers. Visit www.alltrails.com for more information.
