Square Butte Community – Apr 2023

Happy March everyone! It’s my turn to pen the Square Butte Community article. The word ‘community’ is truly exemplified by the Square Butte Community Association (SBCA). The fact that I am writing this article, formerly narrated by a much-missed former Board Member, demonstrates our commitment to collaboration, communication, and cooperation – fundamental pillars of a solid community.

Since I get carte blanche to articulate my thoughts and allow my personality to permeate these paragraphs, I want to diverge from the subject matter of prior issues. I recently came into possession of a wonderful book called Foothills Echoes, courtesy of friends in Millarville. Future SBC updates will extract entertaining nuggets from that weighty tome (Hint: Do you know the real history of Brown- Lowery Natural Area? Have you ‘herd’ the tale of Shorty the Cow?). But for now, I wish to shine a light on the wonderful humans behind the SBCA, so you can get to know us better…

Our newest member Meghan cares deeply about our community. She brings fresh ideas and an interest in expanding opportunities for young families.

Our long-time volunteer coordinator Malcom records our thousands of volunteer hours (annually!) and has helped me take the reins of Property Management. And there is Damon, who joined us last spring to support various SBC initiatives. He exudes a calming presence, while always sharing a kind word with everyone.

Katie is a burst of energy and positivity, and was the mastermind behind the NYE Party, along with Lisa, who can not only keep up with Katie but also coordinates Hall bookings and post-event management, while contributing her business-savvy to Association matters.

Our Treasurer Becky keeps us on the straight and narrow, instilling quality and financial acumen throughout our operations. And she can wield a line- trimmer during spring cleanup like nobody’s business!

Our Secretary Wanda is steadfast in her attention to detail. She brings neutrality and insight to all aspects of our operations and binds us to our words through meticulous meeting minutes.

Our Vice President Sandi passionately activates the community on many important issues, along with event planning and connecting us to amazing people throughout the Foothills.

Our President Clayton, is a hard working, local business owner who makes us all feel valued and welcome, offering a smile and a helping hand for anyone in need… and sometimes a sip of some well-curated spirits from his personal collection!

Another new Board member had to step away due to exciting career opportunities, but we look forward to seeing Annie at events and volunteer days. This also means a Board position is open, stay tuned.

So, this is us! In the spirit of new beginnings, the anticipated awakening of Spring, and a great year ahead for our Community, we encourage you to come out to events, volunteer, contribute, reach out, get involved, and share your ideas.
