We are in “hearing preparation” mode and are also wrapping up our submission to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency. This is a tremendous undertaking and we are appreciative of the broad network of local residents, experts and community groups that have come together to work on this issue.
We expect to qualify as an intervenor in the NRCB hearing process and we will be asking members of the community to join with us. Rather than individuals intervening within the community, we plan to act as the umbrella organization for Springbank and area concerns. Ideally, we will aggregate community concerns and ask for funding to get expert studies and testimony. We plan to raise health concerns, air quality issues, water quality issues, dam safety and wildlife concerns, to name a few. If any of these are hot button topics for you, please send us an email: president@springbankcommunity.com to join us in this process. If you know anyone that lives adjacent to or near the SR1 footprint, please forward them this newsletter and encourage them to get in touch with us.
