October is Canadian Library month and since 2012, our library has celebrated this with our Out Loud series. This year’s theme is Timeless Troubadours. We kick off the series on Saturday October 3 at 7:00 pm, with Tim Hus in concert. Tim is a Canadian country and folk singer- songwriter from Nelson, British Columbia, based in Sundre, known for his “Canadiana Cowboy Music” celebrating the historic West and working-class life. With his Travelin’ Band, he has toured nationwide, shared stages with Stompin’ Tom Connors, Ian Tyson, and Corb Lund, and released albums including Hockeytown and Western Star. His vivid storytelling draws on a wide range of personal work experiences.
This great night of music is followed by John Wort Hannam on Saturday, October 10. John is Alberta’s sixth Artist-in- Residence and Art ambassador. A Canadian folk musician hailing from Lethbridge, Alberta, John is known for his storytelling music, his focus on life in Western Canada, and the human experience as seen through the eyes of working folk. Following these two concerts by modern day troubadours, we will revisit one of the English language’s most famous and revered troubadours: William Shakespeare. On Saturday, October 17, you will be transported back to Elizabethan England and enjoy some scenes from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, presented by The Shakespeare Company. This merry band of actors is united in the shared celebration of classical theatre, where every audience member can re- discover the works of Shakespeare and his peers, and feel they belong to the story.
Our final Out Loud presenter and storyteller is historical fiction author Elinor Florence. Elinor will be speaking about her most recent novel Finding Flora as well as her other books on Saturday, October 24 at 7:00 pm. Elinor’s novels explore life for women in the early days of the Canadian West.
All Out Loud events are free, but you must have a ticket to reserve your seat. Free tickets are available starting September 15.

Some new additions to our line-up include: Yoga Nidra, Pilates, Giant Poinsettia Décor and the Brain Boost Series. In addition, we have a few special events occurring over the fall months. Dallas Dixon leads a Drumming Circle on Friday, September 25 at 7:00 pm to recognize the upcoming National Day of Truth and Reconciliation. The 2nd Annual Western Foothills Pumpkin Derby takes place on Saturday, October 24. If you need help decorating or building your pumpkin, come along to the preparation session on Monday, October 19 at 1:00 pm. Sets of wheels will be available for purchase from the library. Vested Interest: Climate Change Walking Art Show is set for Sunday, November 1 and the Remembrance Day Special edition of Hollywood Got It Wrong will be on Saturday, November 14.
