A warm and heartfelt congratulations to RVS Trustee Shali Baziuk who was elected President of Canadian School Boards Association during CSBA’s Annual General Meeting on July 6 in Whistler, British Columbia. Her term as president began on July 8. As CSBA president, she will help advance the priorities of school board associations across Canada and support strong, locally elected school board governance.
Rocky View Schools (RVS) is excited to receive design funding for a Kindergarten – Grade 9 school in the southeast community of Lanark in Airdrie and a high school in Chestermere’s Chelsea neighbourhood. Minister of Education and Childcare, the Honourable Demetrios Nicolaides announced the government would be moving these projects forward to design on July 9. RVS initially received planning funding for the schools in 2025 as part of the provincial government’s School Construction Accelerator Program.
The Government of Alberta recently announced approximately $3 million in additional funding for RVS for the 2026-27 school year. Administration is currently working through the funding requirements and developing an implementation plan based on the information available at this time. The board will meet in July to consider a budget adjustment before the new school year, with a goal of having the funds ready to use immediately for the start of the 2026-2027 school year.
The Government of Alberta released on July 9th that Sixteen more school projects in Calgary are being fast-tracked through a provincial government program. Education Minister Demetrios Nicolaides will announce the projects July 16th, as part of the Alberta government’s nearly $9-billion push to add 200,000 more student spaces throughout the province. Under the Schools Now program, Nicolaides will announce 41 projects that are being advanced provincewide — 19 will be able to begin construction, while 22 will enter the design phase.
