Chapter 190

Greetings dear reader. Back in the land of wild winds and wonderful vistas, the mountains greeting my morning excursions and implacable great grey owls sentinel atop fence posts, two owls one morning. Deer gadding about all over the place, calves dot the landscape and the sense of growth, fertility, newness washes over everything. Spring in Alberta is a glorious thing. Of course, as I write this we’re headed into the long weekend with forecasts of all kinds of rain and snow and possible excesses of weather. Enjoy the camping season!

I have launched myself back into the business of therapy almost on landing… visiting new places, talking to new people, letting things be known. I managed to resurrect an old relationship that may bear much fruit in the days to come… or not, who knows?

Coming back to my beautiful sanctuary home, place of peace and internal greenery. I am thankful for friends who support my adventures and help me maintain this existence.

Reuniting with my four-legged friend who has happily passed a few months being her best self, living wild, enjoying the company of others of her kind, she seems remarkably content to spend time in my company despite my long absence. We took some long walks together exploring reaches beyond the safety of the herd, restoring independence, discovering new grass, new bodies of water, places to plunge and play. Good times. It’s great to be home.

Working with a bunch of new horses, practicing new techniques and honing old ones, discovering new and exciting things every day. I am deep in study and practice, moving through a sequence of challenges at great speed, up against a deadline and thus far thriving. The work I did while in Europe serves to broaden my knowledge and appreciation of all things different and the same. New people to meet and new horses to make friends with, all good stuff for the months ahead.

Human and Horse Healing, spending a morning making a human feel really good, then the same with a horse or two in the afternoon. I’m so blessed to spend the majority of my day in the company of some of the most magical beasts on earth. Maybe you’re one of them?! There are few things as healing for the soul than seeing someone walk away with a glow about them, or sitting in the sunshine watching and listening to the happy contented munching of horse on grass.

I couldn’t bring myself to leave the barn last night. After fun times riding bareback on my elastic-band of a pony, then a long time sitting with said horse, saying goodbye for the day… I found myself sat cross-legged in the rapidly-growing green grass, admiring almost cloudless blue sky and the heat of the waning sun on my back, birds singing, breeze blowing – thankfully less forcefully than earlier in the day when clouds of dust attempted assault on my eyes at regular intervals.

It was a good day. Today is a good day. May every day be a good day.

Thanks to Monika for this fab photo of my best beastie.
