Hi my name is Ms. Robin and I am so excited to bring the Music For Young Children program here to the Bragg Creek area!
I grew up in a military family with my Dad who knew travelling the world would be my greatest education and my Mom who still encourages a daily dose of Music, Theatre or Literature, their common bond was their humour and this is where I began!
I grew up playing the piano and saxophone for many years and decided to return to serious study while my husband and I were raising our children in Redwood Meadows and Springbank. I began my studies at Mt Royal University and with the help of 2 inspiring teachers, I received my Royal Conservatory of Music Level 9 in Piano, Harmony and History. I then went on to receive my RCM Elementary Piano Specialist designation.
I love J.S. Bach and Baroque music. It’s like ear candy! Classical and Romantic music are also a true joy to play on the piano! I enjoy sprinkling fun Folk, Pop, Blues, Alternative and Country into my classes and I’m passionate about introducing my students to new Canadian artists.
Once I started teaching Music For Young Children classes in Calgary, I realized I loved the group and parented setting of the MYC classes; it’s just so much fun with friends and family! More importantly, Music and Piano is easy for everyone to understand when a student is offered the simple language of Theory, Rhythm, Composing and History.
Like The Royal Conservatory method, the Canadian MYC program is offered around the world and internationally recognized at prestigious universities due to their ‘comprehensive group music’ program. The piano is the creative tool that easily leads to other instruments, once all the foundations of music are taught.
Once students graduate from the preparatory MYC program, they receive their MYC Certificate, their Royal Conservatory Level 1 Certificate and they are ready to take their RCM Level 5 Theory Exam! Some students continue onto my RCM group classes, up to Level 4 piano and others progress further with their school band or private music teachers.
Regardless of where my students continue, my greatest joy is teaching a comprehensive music program to students and their families, creating music-lovers for a lifetime!
