Millarville Horticultural Club – Oct 2024

Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month, September to May, at 7:00 p.m. The meetings are held at the Millarville Anglican Church House on Hwy 549.

Thank you for all the delicious food that was brought to the potluck for the September meeting.

Our September meeting was a Salute to our Volunteers, and featured our huge number of Committees that our Hort Club supports. We heard reports and check ins from all committees. Committee Heads and their dedicated committee members were celebrated with a big cake. Thank you all.

We then had presentations on Fall Planted Garlic by Louise. And The Honey Merchants with Katie Merchant, who brought a wonderful display of honey boxes and tools, and some of her delicious products for us to taste. Katie also brought packages of bee-friendly flower seeds for us to encourage the bees in our gardens.

Just a note to Committee Heads. For our AGM on November 12, we would like a written or spoken report, or both, on your activities for the past year.

It is always important to update and ask for people to take on a leadership role, either as a member of the executive, or serving on a committee for our many events.

The roles of Vice President and Secretary- Treasurer are both up for renewal this year. Both Lorraine and Brenda will be travelling extensively in the New Year and would like someone else to step up. If you would consider either of these roles, please call Louise at (587) 834-1885.

Our October 8th meeting we will have our member Renée Miller do a presentation on her specialty, Dehydrated Vegetables, Fruits and Herbs. Renée grows and preserves all these in her spacious Okotoks garden.

Best wishes to all as you complete your harvest as the weather gets cooler.

If you are interested in attending any of our presentations, please contact Louise Patterson Bruns ( our new President ) at louisepattersonbruns@gmail.com or at millarvillehorticulturalclub@gmail.com. Whether you are a novice or expert in landscaping or gardening, join our club; $15/year for singles or $20/year for a family. Check us out on Facebook as well.
