One more month of school and regular library hours – how did this year go by so fast?! For the months of July and August the library will be open Tuesdays (9-12 and Wednesdays 10-7.30. The Summer Program for kids will run Wednesdays 11-4 all summer long. This will be a drop-in program except for special programs which will be by registration. More details will follow as the summer gets closer. Check our FB and Instagram pages.
Our Millarville library workshops are winding down with cupcake decorating and Quigong in May and our annual book clubs get together. There are around ten active bookclubs in our area and they send representatives to a wine and cheese evening where each group shares their favourite two books. These will be posted on our Instagram and FB pages to help with your summer reading choices. We are looking for new ideas for adults’ and kids’ classes, workshops and activities for next fall/winter. Please call (403-931-3919) or email (amclibrary@marigold.ab.ca) your suggestions to the library. And remember you can continue to order a wealth of books and other materials through tracpac.ab.ca .
Lots of exciting new books and audio books will be in the library by the time this is published. And we now have a limited selection of Xbox games available to borrow.
This time of year we all get excited about gardening. And here are some new gardening books in our library.
No-till Organic Vegetable Farm by Daniel May outlines how to start and run a profitable market garden that builds health in soil, crops and community.
Gardening for Everyone by Julie Watkin is all about the planning, planting and harvesting of vegetables and herbs at home.
Grow More Food by Colin McCrate and Brad Holm (the founders of the Seattle Urban Farming Company) is a vegetable gardeners’ guide to getting the biggest harvest possible from a space of any size.
Pruning Simplified by Steven Bradley covers basic pruning techniques, optimal tools for the job and when and how to prune.
And if you’re all about post-covid travel this summer, have a look through another new Millarville Book, The National Geographic Complete National Parks of Europe, featuring 460 parks, including their flora and fauna, historic sites, scenic hiking trails and more.
Have a great, safe, smoke-free summer everyone!
