As we near the end of another year, I want to extend my warmest wishes to you and your families. While you’re enjoying the peace and togetherness this season brings, I hope your homes are filled with laughter, warmth, and good company.
This time of year reminds me how fortunate we are to live in a country built upon hard work, community spirit, and a deep respect for the freedoms and values which make Canada strong. From our farmers and ranchers to our small- business owners, energy workers, and dedicated volunteers, it is you who make our communities special. Serving as your Member of Parliament continues to be the greatest honour.
In this holiday session, Conservatives have been working tirelessly to defend the people who feed, fuel, and build this country. From fighting for farmers and energy workers to making life more affordable for families, we’ve brought forward real solutions while holding the Liberal government accountable at every step.
This fall, we advocated for a serious plan to make home ownership affordable again. Conservatives called for cutting the GST on all new homes under $1.3 million, a measure to save families up to $65,000 while encouraging rapid new construction. We also pushed to tie federal infrastructure dollars to results, requiring municipalities to increase building permits by at least 15 percent each year.
Conservatives also stood proudly along side the men and women who have served this country. We joined veterans in calling for transparency regarding Mark Carney’s cuts to the Veterans Affairs Canada budget. Our veterans deserve respect and honesty, not hidden reductions in essential services.
On immigration, Conservatives continued to fight to fix the system the Liberals have broken. We pushed for meaningful amendments to Bill C-12 to restore the value of Canadian citizenship and repair the long-standing immigration consensus. The House also debated Bill C-220, introduced by the Hon. Michelle Rempel Garner, Conservative Shadow Minister for Immigration, which seeks to restore equality before the law and end two-tier justice by preventing judges from considering immigration status during sentencing.
Through every debate and committee, Conservatives have stood up for the people who build this country. As we look ahead to the new year, we remain committed to supporting agriculture and energy, restoring accountability to Ottawa, strengthening public safety, and making life more affordable for hardworking families.
My focus for the coming year remains on a few key priorities:
Building a Stronger Rural Economy
I will continue pushing for policies to encourage investment, open new markets, and allow our agriculture, resource and small-business sectors to flourish. Foothills has enormous potential, and I’m determined to see it unleashed. We cannot continue to see investment, like the new Nutrien potash terminal, leave Canada for the United States.
Standing Up for Alberta’s Energy Sector
Our energy producers are world leaders in innovation, responsibility, and environmental stewardship. I will keep pushing for policies which strengthen, not hinder, our energy future and expand infrastructure development to access world markets.
Championing Affordability for Families and Seniors
With rising costs putting pressure on households, I remain committed to advocating for lower taxes, responsible government spending, and practical solutions to help families keep more of their hard-earned dollars. No one in Foothills should have to choose between heating their home and putting food on the table.
Defending Freedoms and Responsible Governance
I will always stand for accountable government, freedom of expression, and the individual liberties which form the foundation of our democracy.
Fostering Unity and Optimism Across Canada
I am confident our country is capable of renewed cooperation and shared purpose despite the political rhetoric. I’ll continue promoting constructive dialogue, respect for our differences, and policies to bring Canadians together.
As we step into the coming year, I remain deeply grateful for your trust and support. Representing you is an honour and a privilege I never take for granted. My door is always open, and I welcome your thoughts, concerns, and ideas.
From my family to yours, may your homes be filled with good cheer, and may the new year bring you health, happiness, and the courage to dream big.
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and warmest wishes for 2026.
John Barlow
