YouthWrite
July 5
YouthWrite Society Canada is a non-profit and registered charity that runs camps and workshop experiences for kids who love to write… Just about anything!© We are in our 28th year of providing camps and workshop experiences, and are so excited for this year’s summer camp offerings.
YouthWrite is an inclusive, diverse, and brave space where kids from all backgrounds and walks of life can learn to harness the power of their voices and their words. We encourage YouthWriters to take risks in their writing and their art, and foster a culture of support and care in which all youth can have a seat at the table, share their work and their voices, and feel supported and acknowledged by their peers.
We believe all youth should have access to the arts, and provide scholarships for those who come from marginalized communities or lesser financial means. Our commitment to diversity is reflected in our staff and our youth participants, and in 28 years we have never turned away a child in need for financial reasons.
Our week-long summer camp experiences give creative youth a chance to work with our amazing instructional teams of professional artists and published authors, as well as our amazing team of supervisors—all of whom are working artists or professionals in their given fields. Youth will have the chance to choose their instructors and their classes from a list of fabulous options. We believe in a multi-disciplinary approach to the arts, and it is reflected in our course offerings. We have more traditional options like poetry, fiction, and screenwriting, as well as visual art, comic book creation, painting, sculpting, yoga, dance, drumming, songwriting, improv, animation, and so much more! Additionally, youth participants will get to take part in beloved traditions and evening activities, such as the BEEG and LEETLE shows (live improvisational performances put on by the supervisory team each day), Inklings (a chance to share your work or show off your talents to peers), scavenger hunts, sacred writing time, nature walks, time at the local pool, campfire sing-alongs, guest presenters and panel discussions featuring wonderful and professional guests, and much more!
