Music evolves and changes like landscape and climate. It has peaks and valleys like our beautiful mountain range. Both music and nature possess the power to move us profoundly.

For centuries, composers have drawn inspiration from nature. Ludwig van Beethoven, for example, took long walks in the countryside to clear his mind and find musical inspiration. Similarly, Johannes Brahms, a Romantic Period composer, often sought refuge in his alpine lodge to compose some of history’s greatest music.

Chisel Creek Classical was created to reunite music with nature in an intimate, familial setting. Nestled in West Bragg Creek, this festival brings musicians together for a transformative two-week celebration of nature, community, and musical excellence. During this time, artists immerse themselves in the stunning surroundings and timeless masterpieces of the chamber music repertoire. They delve into the depths of musical expression, cultivating a profound understanding and appreciation for these extraordinary works. This year we will feature two concerts in August. One on August 18th and the other on the 25th. Join us on August 18th at 17:30 for an array of contemporary music from the last century, culminating in the world premiere of a piece by the acclaimed Canadian composer Vincent Ho. This program will keep you on the edge of your seat with its dynamic rhythms and theatrical flair. On August 25th we step into a world of youthful brilliance with three masterful works by Beethoven, Barber, and Bartók. These compositions mark pivotal moments in the composers’ early careers, and will provide a rich, soul-nourishing experience.
