Just a reminder that school is starting in September.

If you are new to the community and have children starting at the Millarville Community School, their website has plenty of good information: www.foothillsschooldivision.ca/millarville

Also, drivers need to watch out for the children and slow down, the maximum speed in Millarville is 30 km/h.

Did you know that the Leighton Art Centre is home to one of Foothills County’s Historic One-Room School Houses?

Ballyhamage opened in the fall of 1919. The little white frame building had no electricity, indoor plumbing, telephone, water well, or running water. It was built on top of a ridge of hills with the Rocky Mountains as a dramatic backdrop. Eventually, it was moved to Leighton Art Centre.

Diamond Valley Singers
The Diamond Valley Singers begin their fall season on Wednesday September 18. They meet at the Sheep Creek Library every Wednesday from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. This group of 20+ singers do a variety of fun popular songs in 3 and 4 part harmony. There will be a Christmas Concert plus several appearances at the hospital and seniors’ lodges in Nov and Dec.

John Ware Homestead
If you haven’t heard, the University of Calgary archeology team spent this summer on the Fisher property looking for John Ware’s first homestead.

“What was a working ranch, anchored by the tiny, hand-built house where the former American slave lived with his wife, Mildred, and four children, is now just rural cow pasture — and for lead archeologist Dr. Lindsay Amundsen-Meyer and her team, the first step was to determine where the Ware house stood.”

Firefighter Alaric joined the Calgary Fire Cadets and has previously volunteered with Rocky View County Fire department. Firefighter Hebbard came to Foothills County from the County of Minburn Fire Department.

These new firefighters bring a wealth of experience and skills to Foothills Fire department, and we are confident that they will be valuable members of the team. We are thrilled to have them on board and look forward to the contributions they will make to the safety and well-being of our community.
