Unexpected Blessings

My wife and I recently spent a couple of days away in Canmore, planning life and enjoying some rare time away for ourselves. As we had to wait for a table we decided to window shop (something my wife enjoys more than I do). A privately owned bookstore was open, and as my wife is a lover of good books, we thought we would browse. My eyes caught what I thought was a children’s book entitled The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse by Charlie Mackesy. It caught my attention as my two youngest sons love foxes and think we need one as a pet. Upon thumbing through the pages (many times through now) I have realized that yes, a good book for the kids, but also an excellent book for those who may need to reconcile the challenges of life.

2020 has been a year that for many, the challenges have seemed overwhelming. You may be wondering where the refund policy is hidden. Unfortunately the clock can’t be turned back. There is a way forward, but we do need the courage to step into the unknown.

We are fortunate to live in smaller communities where we don’t need to weather the storms of life alone. We have neighbours, family, and friends that we can reach out to and find help during our time of need. Or, if we are observant, maybe we can notice and give some kindness away.

If you can, pick up this book from your locally owned bookstore, or if you can’t do that, order it online.

Hopefully it will help you along your journey, and my unexpected fortune of finding a simple yet profound book can bless you, too.

From my family to yours,
Lowell Harder
