DIAMOND VALLEY CHAMBER – Oct 2026

LEADERSHIP – A Culture and a Team That Works

So…I made a mistake. I thought that I could take in the book Leadership Mindset 2.0, by R. Michael Anderson as an audio book, while I was finishing drywall in a basement reno.

Wow! This is a book that needs to be taken in over time. It can be quite overwhelming.

The essence of the book is that leadership flows from the character, self-awareness, emotional health and practices of the leader.

Business owners/Entrepreneurs who develop themselves as leaders make their companies more resilient, improve the experience and loyalty of their employees, and seek to make the community around them stronger.

As the leader/entrepreneur grows in self-awareness and mindfulness, his/her business environment/culture also grows in maturity, focus, purpose, strength…and performs better.

Their staff culture improves, they attract and keep the best employees, and their influence extends beyond their own business environment. See this quote from a summary on www.shortform.com

Leveraging Influence for the Greater Good
Anderson argues that conscious businesses, organizations that are fueled by a deep sense of purpose, value, and service both perform well and help solve systemic issues.

Those companies, he says, have a culture that is committed to their purpose, values, and employees, and they receive inherent market rewards for this. He also cites studies that show “mindful” businesses exceed the S&P 500 by a factor of 14 over a 15-year span. He encourages leaders to view themselves as individuals who can change the world and to leverage their influence to advance causes that help people.

This is just one small aspect of what the book explores. I may have opportunity to write about this some more in the future.

The area of building and keeping a strong workforce is the focus of the half-day conference that your Chamber hosted along with Community Futures Highwood.

I hope that you made it, as it brought some refreshing perspective/tools to the ongoing work of building your team!

Rootin’ for you! We’re all in this together. Todd
