I live on an acreage!
I am so happy to be able to retire on a country residential acreage in Foothills County. Acreage living offers fresh mountain air, nearby recreational areas, wildlife, trees, a blend of expansive space, privacy, and natural beauty. Properties allow homeowners to escape urban pollution and noise or just enjoy outdoor hobbies.
What I can not understand is people that move out here and try to change the nature of their property. Country Residential zoning is designed for traditional acreage living, prioritizing residential use over commercial or industrial activities. It is intended for individuals seeking a rural lifestyle with larger lots while maintaining some community standards. Why would someone buy an acreage and try and develop commercial, industrial, a filming businesses, subdivide it, or get central water?
Part of the Foothills County’s mission statement is to foster a strong, diverse, and well-managed rural community and preserve the region’s rural character (wide open spaces, dark skies, and scenic vistas) while managing regional growth, protecting the environment, and quality of life.
It is impossible to please all of the people all the time. I believe that the Foothills County employees and elected officials do their very best to balance growth without changing the nature of our country residential paradise. We don’t have to change anything if we are entirely content with where we are. For people wondering if they will love acreage living consider the true test of love- loving without trying to change it.
