Happy Canada Day!
We often think that what makes a nation great is its freedoms, or the beauty of its landscape. We can think of our cultural heritage or poutine! I recently heard that the civility of a nation is judged by how it cares for its most vulnerable. I hadn’t heard or considered that before, but it made sense. The statement really made me stop and ponder. We can take for granted our health and vitality. There are the unexpected impacts of sickness, accidents, or discovering issues that we’ve inherited through our genetics. Although far from perfect, our country has invested heavily into the care of its people. We live in a society that desires to make room for the broken and marginalized. This is one of the aspects that makes Canada such a beautiful place.

Our rural communities are wonderful places to experience life. As we celebrate Canada, beyond the exploits of our national heroes, the creativity of our artists, or the beauty of our landscapes, hopefully we can remember that what can really make us a great nation, is our ability to stand with the broken and marginalized and extend a caring hand.
We have a full paper and trust that you’ll enjoy the read. There are several events happening throughout our communities this month so be sure to check our events calendar to see what’s in your area.
We want to thank the many people who write and contribute the various community updates and articles on a regular basis. As we don’t rely on any government funding, your financial support is and has been appreciated in order to provide the not-for-profit organizations an effective means of reaching their community.
From my family to yours,
Lowell Harder
