Councillor Update – Barb Castell – MD Foothills – Aug 2025

Barb Castell – Division 3

Summer has been interesting so far this year. Rainy, sunny, stormy, windy, calm, loud, and unpredictable.

Despite the weather, I have a very lush pasture and a very productive garden, so far. My tomatoes and peppers have taken off in the greenhouse, but the cucumbers are a little behind.

120th Millarville Races
I had a fantastic time at the Millarville Races on July 1! Reeve Delilah Miller and I rode in the parade with Race committee member Anna DePaoli and her son Dominic. I will have to confirm it, but I believe it was a record turnout. Great weather, fast horses, excellent food, and visits with friends and neighbours.

Millarville Community Library
As the daughter of a former Director of the Calgary Public Library, I realise the value of community libraries. We are very lucky to have the Millarville Community Library right here in the Hamlet of Millarville.

We thank Jean Whyte for her years of service as our library board chairperson. Welcome to our new chairperson Sheila Hildebrandt. Consider joining the Library Board. It is a 1-2 hour per month commitment and is a great way to get involved and ensure continued success in having a library in our community.

This summer there is a Drop-in Kids programme that runs every Wednesday starting on July 9 from 11 a.m. to 4 a.m. Please come to the library for fun activities, crafts, and story time accompanied by a parent or grandparent.

Go to the Millarville Community Library Facebook page for details about extra special activities that will be happening at the Kid’s programme as the summer progresses. www.facebook.com/millarvillecommunitylibrary

Also, big thank you to Patty Webb, Arlene O, Susan B, Glenda B, and Yvonne S of the Millarville Horticultural Club for all their hard work and help in cleaning up the library garden. President Louise Patterson Bruns provided valuable information to keep the garden looking so attractive.

I look forward to seeing you at the Priddis & Millarville Fair, so be sure you come to the Information Booth (south of the Arena) and say hello to me and my group of volunteers. Have a great summer everyone!
