Winter Safety Day
January 19 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm
FreeWinter Safety Day returns with Alberta Parks and Friends of Kananaskis Country.
Alberta Parks and the Friends of Kananaskis Country are excited to invite the public to Winter Safety Day on Sunday, January 19, 2025. This year, the event will take place in a new location at Canoe Meadows in Kananaskis.
“We are excited to host this event in a new location,” says Trevor Julian, executive director of Friends of Kananaskis Country, “By moving the event to a more accessible location, we are hoping to attract even more people interested in spending time in Kananaskis this winter.”
The annual event will still host fun, family friendly activities including safety demonstrations, a BBQ, fire pits, and a visit from Java the avalanche safety dog!
In addition to information on how to safely navigate avalanche country, the day will also offer opportunities to understand wildlife safety and winter ecology, suggest proper equipment and gear to play outdoors in winter, learn about emergency winter survival and shelters, and discuss activities including wild ice-skating safety, groomed trail etiquette, and much, much more.
Whether you are a winter hiker, scrambler, skater, cross-country or backcountry skier, or snowshoer, you’ll get something out of this day!
The list participants confirmed for this year’s event (more to come):
