Councillor Update – Barb Castell – MD Foothills – Oct 2024

Barb Castell – Division 3

Fall is here, my favourite time of the year!

Foothills County Public Works – Bridge Work in Division 3
The bridge deck repair work and replacement of the glands (part of the expansion joints) on the bridge over Three Point Creek on 192 Street W, just north of the Millarville Racing & Agricultural Society entrance is done. As well, the strip deck replacement work on the bridge way out west on 352 Street W. south of Highway 549 has also been completed.

Foothills County Public Works – Highway 549 Erosion Repair
I am sorry but this came to me on August 30, 2024, too late for the September Newsletter. Starting August 30 to approximately October 15, Highway 549 going East from Highway 762 before the 272 Street turnoff, there will be 10.7 km of road erosion repair happening. Drivers may encounter two-way traffic, speed reduction, narrow lanes, pavement drop-off, and narrow shoulders. No passing signs will be visible. No wide loads will be permitted during construction. This activity may occur both day and night.

Foothills County – Strategic Planning

Foothills County Council and key administrative leaders responsible for implementing Council’s strategic directives and managing day-to-day operations met on September 9, 2024, for an all-day Strategic Planning session. Previous to this session, Council members were interviewed separately to discuss the current state of Foothills County with regards to infrastructure, finances, policy, and relationships with external stakeholders. The facilitators lead us through the process to develop a rough draft on the Vision and Mission, Priority Setting, Action Planning, and Measures of Success. The report will be sent back to Council for further discussion and plans going forward.

Priddis & Millarville Fair

The Priddis & Millarville Fair went off without a hitch and we had beautiful weather, not too hot.

The scrawniest little rooster won with the most loonies at the rooster crowing contest. In fact, he never shut up, so they ran out of loonies to put in his pot! Rocks were quickly added from the road to keep count of his crows, these were later replaced with loonies.

50/50 Winners:
Cow-Plop-Drop – Arley Dubs
Duck, Duck, Poop – Dave Theissen
Cock-a-doodle-Poo – Leanne Champion.

The Saturday attendance was 4,445, up from last year which was 3,900.

The Sunday attendance was 2,547, was also up from last year which was 1,800.

Exhibitor numbers were up substantially, too. Entries were 3,067. Last year they were 2,314.

A huge thank you to the Fair Committee and the hundreds of volunteers for all your hard work in planning, recruiting volunteers, fund raising, preparing the venue, hosting, and cleaning up the 117th Priddis & Millarville Fair!
