FLOWER FESTIVAL
July 13 @ 11:00 am - July 14 @ 5:00 pm
CHRIST CHURCH PREPARING TO CELEBRATE THE 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF FLOWER FESTIVAL
In 1962, the Christ Church Ladies Guild decided to organize a “Flower Festival” in order to provide an opportunity for the community to appreciate the flowers, the history of the church and to enjoy “tea” with scones and strawberry jam. Little did they know that this celebration would turn into an annual event that has grown substantially and become a lasting tradition in the area through the years. As usual, this year, the graves will be decorated to honor loved ones who have passed and the 128 year-old historic church and yard will be overflowing with vases and containers of flowers and beautiful arrangements. And (hopefully) the flower bed containing 100 peony plants will be in full bloom.
And of course, the tea, which includes scones served with homemade strawberry jam and “real” whipped cream, will be served.
It is estimated that approximately 50 volunteers are involved in organizing the festival and numerous businesses and other organizations have contributed time and supplies. It is a true “community” celebration! Proceeds from the tea help the guild to cover costs of the Church house and to contribute to charities such as It Takes a Village, Teen Challenge and Days for Girls.
This year, the tea will be held at Christ Church on Saturday, July 13 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. The cost is $8.00 for adults, and $4.00 for children under 6. Everyone is welcome to attend the church service on Sunday, July 14 at 10;30, as all floral arrangements will remain in place for everyone to enjoy.
