The Diamond Valley Discovery Day Parade and Family Festival is back for its annual celebration on Saturday, June 1, 2024. This beloved family-friendly event is a cherished tradition which promises a day of fun and excitement.
The festivities kick off in the Black Diamond community with a scrumptious pancake breakfast at Oilfields High School at 8:30 am. Proceeds from the breakfast will support the school, so come early as the pancakes sell like… hotcakes!
The parade, which is celebrating its 56th year, begins at 10 am, winding its way through a new route to accommodate road construction. The route change will ensure traffic flow and parking availability along Hwy 22 (Centre Avenue and Government Road). View the new route at www.diamondvalley.town.
After the parade, the excitement continues in the Turner Valley community, where the Family Festival takes place in Millennium Park. The festival offers a range of activities, including bounce houses, a petting zoo, and a vendor market featuring local small businesses. Oilfields High School students will be dunking local “celebrities” in the dunk tank as a fundraiser for the school. Live entertainment at the gazebo will keep the atmosphere lively, with highlights such as a drum circle with audience participation at 12 pm and 2 pm, and a line dancing demonstration at 1:15 pm.
New this year is an interactive demonstration space for Foothills Archery, offering safe archery instruction for attendees in the ball diamond. Foodies will delight in the choices: a crowd favourite, the Foothills Lion’s Club will be on hand selling barbecued sausages, root beer and burgers will be offered by gold sponsor A & W, and a variety of food trucks will provide other delicious snacks and meals. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own refillable water bottles, as a water buggy sponsored by Planet Auto and Access HR will be onsite.
Local organizations will round out the festivities; the Sheep River Library will host its annual book sale, while the Lil Legendary Leos will hold a bake sale. The Sheep Creek Arts Council is hosting its annual Bake Sale and Quilt Show, and the Turner Valley Legion will host a family barbecue event from 11:30 am to 6 pm, complete with kid-friendly games.
Join us in Diamond Valley on June 1st for a day of family-friendly fun and community celebration!
